Prizes — The Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise
the vilcek prize for creative promise recognizes foreign-born artists and scientists who have demonstrated exceptional creativity and originality in the early stages of their careers. Two $25,000 prizes, one in the field of biomedical science and one in a category of the arts or humanities selected by the Foundation, are awarded each year.
The cash award and a certificate of recognition created by designer Stefan Sagmeister will be presented to each winner of the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise during the Foundation's annual awards dinner in New York City.
The Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise was established to encourage and support the artistic and scientific achievements of young immigrants who often face significant challenges in their early careers, and to increase awareness of the significant contributions made by foreign-born scholars and artists in the United States.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Biomedical Science, applicants must meet all of the criteria listed below.
SELECTION PROCESS
A panel of distinguished jurors—scientists, science administrators, and science/medical writers—will evaluate each application based primarily on the individual’s research contributions to progress in biomedical sciences, as demonstrated in the quality and significance of his/her research and publication record. In addition, the applicant will also be judged on the effectiveness in communicating the significance of their research to a scientifically literate audience.
The prize winner selected by the jury will be a candidate whose work best exemplifies the characteristics indicated above. Additionally, the jury will identify four finalists, each of whom will receive an award of $5,000. Recommendations of the jury will be submitted to the Vilcek Foundation’s Board of Directors for final approval.
The winner will be notified in November 2010 and will be invited to attend an awards ceremony in New York City in the spring of 2011. Travel expenses and accommodations will be covered by the Vilcek Foundation.

The prize winner selected by the jury will be a candidate whose work best exemplifies the characteristics indicated above. Additionally, the jury will identify four finalists, each of whom will receive an award of $5,000. Recommendations of the jury will be submitted to the Vilcek Foundation’s Board of Directors for final approval.
The winner will be notified in November 2010 and will be invited to attend an awards ceremony in New York City in the spring of 2011. Travel expenses and accommodations will be covered by the Vilcek Foundation.

The Vilcek Foundation shall award a prize of $25,000 to a young foreign-born scientist who demonstrates outstanding early achievement in the field of biomedical research. ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Biomedical Science, applicants must meet all of the criteria listed below.
- Applicant must have been born outside the United States.
- Applicant must not be more than 38 years old as of December 31, 2010 (born on or after January 1, 1972).
- Applicant must be a naturalized citizen or permanent resident (green card holder) of the United States. Persons who were born abroad but attained U.S. citizenship as a consequence of U.S. citizenship of their parent(s) are not eligible to apply.
- Applicant must have earned a doctoral degree (MD, PhD or equivalent).
- Applicant must intend to pursue a professional career in the United States.
- Applicant must hold a full-time position in an academic institution or other organization. Eligible positions include the following: Assistant or Associate Professor, Research Scientist or equivalent. The applicant must be directly responsible for the design and execution of the work submitted for consideration. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows working under supervision of a mentor are not eligible.
- Applicant may not be a past winner or a recipient of one of the four Creative Promise Prize finalist awards.
