the vilcek prize is awarded annually to individuals, born abroad, who have made lasting contributions to society in the United States through extraordinary achievement in biomedical research or arts and letters. Two prizes will be awarded each year, one in bio-medical research and one in a selected field of arts or humanities, including fine art, archi-tecture, music, drama, literature and others. The prize of $50,000 is accompanied by an award object designed by Stefan Sagmeister. The Vilcek Foundation bestows the Vilcek Prizes annually in an award ceremony held in New York City.

The Selection Process

Nominators appointed by the Foundation submit the names of potential award winners to two juries. One jury is comprised of medical researchers; the other consists of experts in the cultural discipline under consideration. Each jury selects one award winner and submits its recommendation to the Board of Directors of The Vilcek Foundation for final approval.
